Last day in Norway

overcast -2 °C

As much as we have enjoyed our holiday, we are looking forward to coming home.

We have packed our gear and the cases are sitting in lockers at Oslo Central Station. We jumped on a tram and headed north of Oslo to a museum. Very much like Scitech but on a smaller scale.
Isaac is asleep in my arms at the moment. We will head back to the station after his sleep then head to the airport.

We couldn't get an earlier flight. But a chat to the travel agent early thismorning confirmed that we have a marrying flight so they will wait for us. She also said we shouldn't have to go through border control as we are in transit. Best bet it to talk to someone straightaway when we land at Frankfurt.

Might no be able to post again. But we will upload more pics when in Perth and also pop a heap on FB

Norway is such a beautiful country. I hope we can return someday. But we say farewell today.

So I hope you have enjoyed the blog. It has been fun. It is also something we can read back to Isaac when he is older and recapture those memories.

Things we have noticed #2

overcast -4 °C

Cross walks are everywhere.

Sugar comes in cubes

Tunnels aren't just a km they are more like 4 or 8kms. This is usually through a mountain. Pretty cool

Toast isn't common at all. For breakfast it is usually a boiled egg with bread, cheese, cold meets and maybe some kaviar.

Snow comes in many forms. As we found out the last couple of days, not all snow is suitable for skiing or snow man building

Coffee is usually percolated and strong

Plants in windows. Without a doubt every home we passed, whilst on the bus, had small pot plants in there windows.

Mercedes, BMW, Audi's and small electric cars are the cars of choice.

Lots of salt seems to be in the meals. We hardly use salt, if at all, so have really picked up on the use of salt.

Most Norwegian's speak English.

Opera house and Maritime Museums

overcast -4 °C

We had a great day today. Headed out early in the freezing cold. We jumped on this sailing boat that took is to the Opera house. We decided to stop there for lunch.

I think James and I are now accustomed to 3 course meals. We had a yummy yummy meal for just under 400 nok each. You do the conversion :)

Back onto the same boat and we headed for the Maritime Museum. There isn't just one museum, but a scattering of them. James headed to the Viking Museum whilst I popped into the Flam museum and gave Isaac a feed.

By now the wind had picked up and it had a real bite to it. After getting back to City Hall we jumped on a bus and headed towards our accommodation. We stopped a few stops before ours and had a lovely meal at an Italian Restaurant. Isaac likes the Norwegian girls as he took to one before our meal.

A busy day and most enjoyed. James is just seeing if we can get on an earlier flight into Frankfurt. Our current connecting time between flights is on 1.10 hrs. If our flight is at all delayed from Oslo then we won't make our connecting flight. Why? Because Frankfurt Airport is crazy!!!!

Freezing toes and a runny nose

overcast -4 °C

Boy is it cold today. -4 in Oslo and a few flakes of snow down by the harbour.

We have popped onto a sailing boat and are doing some island hopping. But as I write this, Isaac is asleep and we are below deck. So we aren't seeing much but will when he wakes. Oh, and he spewed on me earlier too.

We have decided to eat at the Opera house for lunch. Thought we would go all out on our last full day in Norway.

Travelling with a toddler

overcast -4 °C

Isaac has been great! He adjusted well to the time difference and took well to all of our travelling. We have learnt a lot from our short holiday. Some tips

Pick flights that correspond to sleep time. The best move we made was making sure our long haul flight were during isaacs night time sleep.

Let the flight attendants amuse your kid for awhile. Isaac went on a couple of plane tours with the flight attendants.

Order the bassinet even if you think they won't fit. Isaac was a tad too long but with his legs slightly bent we slept well. Also it was great to plonk him up in when he was awake.

Sticker books!!! Discovered that these are the key to long periods of distraction during travelling on trains, buses and planes.

Travelling with a toddler allows you to slow down and take it all in. Allowing Isaac to walk around meant we saw more and therefore enjoyed more.

Over dress them in cold weather. You can always shed the layers.

I'm sure we have learnt more but it's bloody cold right now, -4, and my brain needs defrosting. :)
